First thing I can say about Blood Dark? MIND BLOWN!!!!
Length: 398 pages Published: 23 September 2015
‘There are guardian angels, and there are monsters with wings’
Caitlin Parish should have been the last person to fall for a vampire. A member of the Vampire Control Unit, her relationship with master vampire Kane Malloy had explosive consequences. Caitlin’s colleagues count her as the enemy. And now she’s going back.
Kane has made powerful enemies of his own – and is being targeted by the head of the Global Council, Sirius Throme. With the stakes higher than ever before, Kane knows caring for Caitlin makes him vulnerable. Worse, her decision to return to VCU feels like betrayal.
With Throme threatening to tear Blackthorn apart, and the prophesied vampire leader finally revealed, Kane and Caitlin must both fight with everything they have to stop an all out war. But they’re fighting on opposite sides…
Right when she needs him most, Caitlin makes a shocking discovery about Kane. Has he been playing her all along? And can she trust him with her life when he won’t even trust her with the truth?
The choice Caitlin makes will change the game in Blackthorn forever.
I’d advise a reader age of 17+
It is fair to say I am emotionally exhausted after reading Blood Dark!
This book delves so much deeper into the corruption of Blackthorn. Sirius Throme is one heck of a villain, but Rob is sick and twisted! I never saw that coming, from when I first read of him in Blood Shadows I just thought of him as your typical snivelling ex who would eventually be forgotten about when a new guy came along. But he has come back with a vengeance! I just hope he gets a fitting end!
Reading more of Caitlin and Kane, really opened me up to their characters more, I must admit that every book in the Blackthorn series gets better and better and I had come to love other characters above them. But after reading Blood Dark they have come right to the forefront again. The hopelessness of their relationship kept tearing at my heart and I didn’t know if I wanted them to give up or fight. All I know is I wanted them to survive!
There are so many twists and turns in this book, I feel as though I’m still trying to untie the knots. The thought and detail that must have gone in to writing this story is immense. As I was reading I felt like bits of the puzzle were starting to come together, only to find I was trying to fit the wrong piece!
I felt so many emotions reading this from love to hate, to happiness to anger. But FINALLY I got the end result that I wanted, for them to just give in to their love! To stop fighting it! And it was beautiful.
I can’t wait to read Blood Instinct and hopefully learn more on Caleb and Leila because after reading Blood Dark I have no idea how they are going to get through the things to come alive, let alone together!
