Review of Dimitri by Roxie Rivera

Dimitri and Benny’s story is a scorcher!

Four stars

Length: 285 pages        Published: 1 April 2013

Description

Refusing to lose her brother to the violent Hermanos street gang, Benny turns to Dimitri, the dead sexy Russian who lives in the apartment above her family’s bakery. He’s the only man tough enough to get through to Johnny and save him from a life in prison – or worse.

There’s nothing Dimitri won’t do for Benny, even if it means dealing with her troublemaking brother. He quickly realises that it’s not just Johnny and his thug friends that pose a threat to Benny. A shady real estate developer needs to buy her bakery to secure a multi-million dollar deal and he’ll stop at nothing to make her sell.

Threatened from all sides, Benny finds safety in Dimitri’s strong arms – and in his bed. Her big, sexy Russian has no intention of ever letting her go – and he’ll brave the fires of hell before he lets anyone harm her.

Reader’s Note: Dimitri is an incredibly passionate man with a dominant streak- and Benny is only too happy to indulge his need for a little….restraint.

I’d advise a reader age of 17+

Review ***SPOILERS***

I found this story to be really intense. Dimitri and Benny’s relationship, for the reader happens extremely fast. They have known each other for years but the story starts at the moment they decide to act on their mutual feelings. Things heat up very fast and I can safely say there is certainly some originality in their escapades!

It seems that everything that can go wrong does go wrong for poor Benny. She is barely keeping her business afloat, a family business that she is desperate to keep going, if not for herself then for her family name. Unfortunately not only is her brother stealing from her, a dodgy businessman wants to buy her out so he can make a multi-million dollar deal and is willing to use any means necessary to get what he wants. Add in to the equation Johnny, Benny’s younger misguided brother who seems intent on making all the wrong decisions and sinking deeper and deeper into gang territory and you start to wonder if she can make it out alive. Of course having her sexy Russian and his equally sexy, dangerous comrades to help, comes in handy.

Dimitri’s love and care for Benny is something else, he will do absolutely anything for her. At times I wished he was more forceful with her, but he has every other aspect of his life under control so Benny is his weakness and the one thing not only he can’t control but doesn’t want to.

This book shows more of the relationships that Benny and Dimitri have with their friends. They really seem to form a solid unit and make a better family than any of them ever had. The way they all accept each other and respect each other is great and certainly brings to mind the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover’.

I loved this story, and will be taking a leaf out of Benny’s book and adding it to my own shelf!
