***Adult Romance, Part 1 of 3***

Benella is concerned with two things-avoiding the two village boys who torment her and scrounging for food to help feed her family. Unfortunately, the best wild fruit and vegetables are near the walls of the estate, a dark misty place inhabited by an unforgiving beast.

When her tormentors lock her behind the massive gates, Benella knows her fate is sealed. Yet, the fate isn’t one she expects. Her encounter with the beast starts a bizarre cycle of bargaining for her freedom, a freedom the beast seems determined to see her lose.

A classic fairy tale with a seductively dark new twist, the Beauty and the Beast saga begins with Depravity.

Review ***SPOILERS***

I found this book to be a really unique read, it wasn’t what I was expecting it to be. I was expecting the story to go further than it did, but thoroughly enjoyed and welcomed a more detailed tale.

Benella and her family are struggling to live, her father is a teacher and gives all he earns to his family. Her sister Blye is an aspiring dressmaker and though she contributes little to the family, she keeps coin for herself. Benella’s other sister Bryn looks after the house and also hoards any extra money to herself.

Meanwhile poor Benella is out foraging near the dreaded beasts estate, being bullied by two local boys, who often put her life in danger and has to try and trade with a pervert, anything she gets she gives to her family.

I’m still undecided on how to feel about the beast, I’m hoping Deceit will shed more light on his story. I want to feel bad for him, but then he opens his mouth making me want to smack him! Benella certainly has her work cut out for her.

M.J. Haag has delivered a beautiful tale of a strong young woman holding together her family and bringing kindness to one who others only fear and flee.

Definitely one to add to your bookshelf!
